My Dearest General: It Has Always Been You

Chapter 98 - Codename WANG

Three years ago, Wang Chengbing was still a revered hacker with the codename WANG[1], crowned as the king in the cyber world. He was one of the top list in the most wanted criminal in the Police HQ. Even though his crime didn\'t cordon into homicide and stealing, he had a weird hobby; hack into the police\'s database, fixing their firewall and improve the hole in their cyber security system.

After that, he even had the audacity to leave a message. "I have fixed it for you ah~ how will you thank me? Don\'t forget to treat me to a meal when we meet up later oh~" The most despicable thing was how he added a piggy wink in a glamorous dress as a signature. Its face was swollen pink with thick lips offering a kiss, it was super disgusting.

Even though the police benefitted from his act, still, there were so many confidential secrets inside! All of it was bare in front of WANG, how could they standby and let him do whatever he wanted?!

This WANG was too audacious, haughty and arrogant! Pity that he finally met his nemesis in the name of Jin Renguang who, instead of throwing him in jail, opted to pull him into their team. Ever since then, the SCI unit\'s efficiency improved greatly. However, the only person who could keep him in check was Captain Jin.

The only people who knew his true identity were Jin Renguang and Xu Binchen. It was unknown where the latter knew the information from, anyway he had an inscrutable air around him that made people reluctant to approach even though he was the person with the widest network in their squad. Even Jin Renguang himself wasn\'t clear of Xu Binchen\'s background. He accepted him solely based on his capabilities and quality as a detective and police officer. Nothing else.

Ru Meiqi herself only knew Wang Chengbing\'s identity ever since the conclusion of their meeting.

Wang Chengbing\'s identity was confidential. If not for this accident, maybe she wouldn\'t have known at all.

He once ruled over the cyber world, no one could ever stand in his way. This kind of haughty and prideful man, in which kind of mindset would he collude with the serial killer? If he wanted to, he could even make a person appear and disappear out of nowhere. Escaping suspicion was as easy as a pie.

If he wanted to create a crime, he could make it completely invisible okay?! How could he let the blame fall onto his head just like that?

If previously it could be said that Wang Chengbing sympathized with the victims which compelled him to help them, now he was all fired up to catch the culprit and his efficiency went up by 200%.

Maybe in the history of the serial killer\'s glorious deed, he would have never expected that the thing that would trip him was the exact person whom he poured the dirty water on.

"Look at this, Senior Ru." Wang Chengbing pulled up another screen. This time, it was the history of a chat between the username @chuanchuan88 and @kmeulchian. Ru Meiqi rubbed her chin as she scanned the short meaningless conversation.

"What is this platform?"

"It\'s an unknown forum ah. Even if I said it, you will never recognize it. Basically, the people who joined this forum were people who wanted to curse their life." Wang Chengbing grabbed his phone and gave it to Ru Meiqi. "You can look at it."

Ru Meiqi scrolled up to the latest post that was posted two hours ago by @jianghuiswide.

[Ah, fucking shit. My mother always asks me for money. Where can I find so many fucking money?! Should I rob the bank or my neighbor? That old hag already has one leg into the grave, when will she finally die?!]

This kind of rude post filled with curses made Ru Meiqi frown deeply. Then, when she clicked on the comment column, she was even more astonished.

[Hahaha, rob your neighbor ah~ I have robbed them since years ago, I have even fucked their family\'s daughter and they never found out. Stupid idiot!]

[Should I tell you the way to rob the bank?]

[Why so difficult? Just kill your mother ah. Give her sleeping pills or push her down the stairs, making it an accident and voila, everything is finished!]

Ru Meiqi\'s face flushed in anger. "What the hell is this forum?!" She had never known that such a website could exist in the nation. It was filled with various declaration of crimes; stealing, ****, injuring, intentional blackmail, cursing. But the worst thing was how they felt proud of their own crimes and competed to see who could commit more.

Wang Chengbing raised his brows. "Senior Ru, there\'s many hidden crimes in this world. The ones that were uncovered by the police don\'t even make up 10% of it. Many people committed crimes and went free without being noticed. This was just one glimpse into that dark world."

Ru Meiqi turned speechless. "Shouldn\'t this be reported to the police?"

Ru Meiqi didn\'t expect that one day, she—a quite renowned criminal psychologist—would be given a look as if she was an innocent child by a man who was younger than her. Wang Chengbing shook his head as he laughed helplessly. "Sometimes, justice doesn\'t always prevail. Many people became victims but could only silently endure it. What was the use of reporting it to the police? For example, this crime of injuring a fellow classmate in the football club."

Ru Meiqi looked down to read the quite short caption.

[AAAAH, I got into my dream school! If I had known that it would be this easy, then I would have done it sooner! Now that idiot can\'t no longer compete with me! I am a genius!]

"Allegedly, it was just an accident which caused his classmate to strain his tendon and he had to go into therapy for at least half a year. But because of it, the classmate who was supposed to get a recommendation into a famous sports school ended up being rescinded. His dream and future was practically ruined and the spot ended up being given to the OP. How many people knew that it wasn\'t only an accident? Maybe except for him, there\'s only people on the website. Can this fellow classmate take him to the police? For what? For tripping over his feet and bumped into another person?"

Ru Meiqi sank into contemplation.

Afterall, Wang Chengbing was a person who had dived into the dark world of cyber crime. He had seen more than the rice he had ever eaten. He shook his head. "It\'s no use. What can the victim do? Endure. A few years later, it will merely remain as a regret. Life will go on as usual."

Ru Meiqi didn\'t want to give up. "Who created this website then?"

"Don\'t bother with it." Wang Chengbing waved his hand tiredly. "The person who created this website probably didn\'t even expect that their website would be used for this kind of purpose."

"Can you close it down?"

"I can." He answered calmly. "Then what? I close one, then two more will appear. It is just like a tumor. You leave it be, maybe it will only corrupt a certain area. But if you move it, it will spread to your whole body."

Ru Meiqi clenched her fists and knew that Wang Chengbing was right. The crucial thing wasn\'t the website, wasn\'t the crimes, but the people who showed off, who didn\'t think that they did anything wrong. There were thousands of them out there, thousands of small, unnoticed crimes.

Protect the citizens. If the citizens the police had to protect included these kinds of people, then…

"Don\'t stress yourself with it." Wang Chengbing\'s voice pulled her up from her thoughts. "Search for @chuanchuan88 and see how our kind, upright citizen behaved behind the screen."

[1] WANG in english alphabet and coincidentally, it means \'king\'.
